Thanksgiving in Cambodia
After drinking in the presence of His Holiness the Dalai Lama for four days I traveled to Cambodia for Thanksgiving to bask in the glory of Angkor Wat. Angkor comes from the Sanskrit word "nagara" which means holy city. The temples are magical and spiritual and the Hindu/Buddhist iconagraphy is fascinating. Amidst the breathtaking temple ruins there are land mine victims which serves as a fresh reminder of the harsh reality this region's faced.
On Thanksgiving morning my friend, Becky, and I watched the sunrise at Bayon. Bayon was built 100 years after Angkor Wat in the late 12th, early 13th century. There are no words to articulate the experience of witnessing a multitude of colors as the sun rose on the faces of more than 200 Avalokiteshwaras. The warmth of the sun and the smiles on the faces of the Bodhisattva of Compassion bathed us in love. Definitely a lot to be thankful for this Thanksgiving.
